I want to do the sky+ hd upgrade, but how do i know what version i have?
Do you mean the version of the SKY+ itself?
Pace v1 has a black section in the center of the front panel.
Pace v2 has it's smartcard slot on the left hand side.
Amstrad v3 has it's smartcard on the right hand side.
Thomson has 160 plastered on the front panel.
Thanks Starburst,i must have the V one then!
Never have understood this one!
Pace have made 2 models of Sky+ boxes, the 3000 and the 3100. Hence the adoption of them being referred to as 'v1' and 'v2'.
However, the Amstrad Sky+ box is their first 'stab' at Sky+. Why on earth is it referred to as 'v3'. With this twisted logic in mind shouldn't the Thomson 160 be referred to as 'v4'?
Referring to the Amstrad as 'v3' makes it appear to be an evolution of the Pace unit, which it isn't.
I didn't start it however it was the third "edition" of the SKY+ hardware so there is some merit in the use of v3
For that reason perhaps it caught on very early over on the DS forums and migrated to these forums and various SKY related newsgroups.
If PACE do release their 80gig SKY+ (PACE 2.5) it might complicate things though.
I don't think we have to follow the mistakes of other forums, do we? Perhaps we should let them follow us.
The Amstrad was the third Sky+ box to hit the market but I don't think we should refer to it as 'v3'. Because it isn't.
