Question What type of video file should I use when converting Mini DV Tapes?

Novice Member
I have some mini DV tapes I want to put on disk. I bought a video capture device that came with EZ Grabber software. The device itself is the One Touch Video Capture from Diamond Multimedia.

In looking at the config settings, I have a host of different file options and I'm wondering which one is best to use. The options are: DVD, SVCD, VCD, MPG4, AVI, WMV, WMA and MP3.

Realizing that the tapes are just average quality, not sure which of the above formats would be the best choice.

It really depends on what format the final video will be, ie a DVD is MPEG-2 so I would suggest the DVD preset if you intend to burn the footage to DVD. If copying onto a USB flash drive then MP4 or AVI will be good for that as they are likely to be as good quality but smaller than MPEG-2.
