Been practicing all week and starting to realise how much I love to take moody, noisy, dark pictures of people and places over bright light and airy.

Dont know why, maybe a reflection of my personality  I also love wildlife and nature, especially animals. I can stare at a decent animal shot for days on end - if you know what I mean :smashin:

I cant wait for tomorrow as going out with the camera all day and will see what I can get.

What type of pictures do you like to take and why?

    Pete.

Yeah, starting to realise that the background can make or break a pic. Tricky for me as living with folks since coming back from OZ and they have floral wall paper in every room :)

    On backgrounds:

My comp entry this month, the picture of the broken egg. I broke the egg on a really nice piece of wood that Lorna's Dad 'fashioned' for us for use as a chopping board. We were supposed to rub Olive Oil in it before using it but I couldn't be bothered to do that so I just broke the egg onto it and snapped away. Unfortunately, the egg has stained it a little so I tried to wash it off but there is still a stain  I have just put it back in it's place but with the stained side facing the wall. Think I might be in trouble when she finds out, the things you do for a decent shot

    Anywho, back on topic.

Animals, people, plants, buildings mainly - very rarely get landscapes to come out right otherwise I am sure it would be added to the list.

Dont have the creativity to come up with the "arty"/ abstract pictures that so many do for the photo of the month competition.

If you havent got a "proper" Photo editing program and wish to start cheap ,you could do worse than Photoshop Elements 4. Here
The ability to change background and alter backgrounds relative to foreground ( faking depth of field etc) is a skill that can make your pics go from good to great or from great to fantastic. You can even have parts of the same photo being colour and other parts mono ( black/white)
You are very right in saying that the background makes a big difference but with a little skill with PS or PSE , you can fix photos on the PC to great effect even if the original background was just so so
I have some tutorials : short QT video clips ( and a trial of PSE 4) sitting on one of my Hard drives.
If you wish, Pm me and Ill post them to you on a CD ( when your "D" drive is fixed:)
    ;)

Any kind of wildlife for me :)

Fairly lucky that I can often get fairly close to wild things. (when I get a day off ! )

If you keep still some of them will check you out sometimes.
