    Guys

I am interested in the mix of BD interests here, can you have a vote and let me know what you use, might use, will use for watching BD films.

I am asking this because many threads here appear to be computer based and I was expecting MUCH more interest in stand alone player or more likely games machines (PS3).

There aren't many threads in this forum - it's like a ghost town...

Anyway standalones only for me - no need for 25GB/50GB storage on optical discs - removeable HDDs are my mainstay backup these days: cheaper, quickly and much more reuseable. Plus thanks to USB you can plug them in anywhere without having to have an expensive 'next gen' drive in the PC.

Likewise I have no interest in BD in a games console. I will doubtless buy the PS3 at some point but the BD side of things is irrelevant. As a PC gamer who has experienced high resolution gaming for well over a decade I fully appreciate that their simply is no major need for games to be put on next gen discs...

The laptop solution was ideal for me as I needed(?) a new lappy. Blu Ray built in was killing two birds with a single purchasing argument with my wife.

    The PS3 initially.

Then standalones (maybe incl HD-DVD) once prices drop.

...Just like with my PS2 :smashin: :D

I've gone down the Media Centre PC route and bought the Sony XL202. I had already decided I liked the idea of a 'living room friendly' PC that could store and play all my digital media as well perform all other standard PC tasks. Therefore when this model was announced with a BD read/write drive I pre-ordered and have been extremely satisfied with the results since I first used the machine in October last year.

I was hoping for a standalone BD player soon that will internally decode all of the new audio formats and be able to output this as multichannel PCM via HDMI. Also needs to have net interactivity. Price between £500-£700. The Toshiba HD-XE1 DH DVD will offer all of this - Blu ray has to counter surely.

A £100-150 Blu-Ray rom drive will save me having to buy a PS3 till late 2008.

my PC is on 24 hours a day and hooked up to the TV for watching downloaded HD so it makes more sense for me to buy a BD writer that's cheaper than the standalones and games consoles, plus I can make my own discs for my HD camcorder!

I figure that around summer/autumn prices should be at least that low. I remember when DVD recorders came out, it didn't take long for prices to plummet.

    Thanks Guys

50 votes......BD not very popular then ;). I was quite surprized at the split so far. 50% stand alones and a 34% for the PS3, 16% for 'computer'. I thought PS3 would be higer and computer and and stand alone would be lower.
