What tree is this? Willow? Different types?

There is a BIG tree, I really like due to it's trunk/branches, and the way it hangs down.

I'm convinced it must be some form of Willow, but I presume there are many types of willows?
I've heard of weeping willow, pussy willow.

Any tree experts here that could confirm the willowyness aspect of it, and perhaps even what type it could perhaps be?

These beauties are Weeping Willow Trees, they were very much part of my childhood as there are many of them were/still growing along the River Shuttle (at the bottom of my parent's garden) in Bexley, where I grew up.

There are probably no Willow trees along that stretch of river behind my parent's house and farther afield that I haven't climbed or swung on the branches.

I'd love one in my garden but the roots are very invasive.

Weeping willow. Have one in my garden a real pain in the behind. Grows at an incredible rate. I had mine pollarded last year and it’s already grown a huge amount already. Sheds all its leaves which you need to rake up or kills the lawns. Very brittle so branches snap all the time.

Paracetamol is derived from it!

Pedant alert:

Aspirin is the one derived from willow (though it's synthesised these days).

As far as I can tell by googling, paracetamol has always been a synthetic drug. Happy to be proved wrong, though.

No you’re right, it’s Asprin! Did the experiment. 22 years ago in chemistry my memory is hazy!

Thanks for the replies, so sucking on wood will not remove a headache!

I just like the shape.
Growing fast seems good I thought, no point planting a tree if I'll be dead before it gets to a size I like !!!!

I didn't even know it had things to fall off (leaves) that's a shame.
Roots? When you say invasive, we talking a long way then?

In a few weeks from now that tree will look like this. Then in Autumn comes the fun part of raking all those leaves up.

Not to forget the brittle branches snapping at medium winds

That looks gorgeous, though I will admit you are talking me out of the idea as a Zero Maintenance tree is more what I'd be hoping for.

Perhaps will need to ask for other ideas in a later post.

It might interest you to know that there is actually a Pussy Willow tree, which might tempt you

A tree like that needs a LOT of water, which is why they should really only be along rivers or wide open spaces.

If it is in your back garden the roots will be seeking water from wherever it can....including your neighbours soakaways and other drainage. Which can be a right painful problem when they work it out and come knocking on your door!

Could be a corkscrew willow.

Morning all. Can anyone name this tree please? It has berries on and not sure if the dog is eating them or if they are poisonous to her. Was thinking a broad leaf Cockspur thorn but they seem too big.

Some sort of Mountain Ash? Possibly Oak Leaf Mountain Ash. Looked up the berries and they are not toxic to dogs, but I can’t guarantee that’s what that tree is:)

It’s difficult to be definitive, but yeah it looks pretty close.:)
