what to use

want to setup my reciever but its what one to use i have a sony str db940 and a yamaha dsp ax1 i have a good size living room in the house but i only have 1 set of sony ss x7 floor standers sony center and 200w technics sub all my stuff is boxed up the loft due to young kids but now it time to setup again any help im willing to sell and buy to get something good

I'd sell your existing kit and look at starting afresh, but I'd not expect to get much for your current hardware given its age.

If wanting something comparable to the Yamaha DSPAX1 then you are probably looking at spending at least £1K on the receiver and maybe another £2K on a 5.1 speaker package?

dante01 is there anything you would advise using reciever wise i want to use it mainly 2ch but will use it 5.1 as well

It would ultimately be a matter of personal preference and you'd need to audition in order to determine this for yourself, but Marantz AV receivers get good ratings as far as their stereo performance is concerned. Anthem, Cambridge Audio and Arcam also all seem to do well when it comes to stereo music, but none of them will equal a comparably priced stereo integrated when it comes to stereo. By wanting 5.1 you will be sacrificing quite a lot in terms of stereo performance.
