    Hi guys,

My dilemna, brought a Sony Davs 880 due to "wife approval factor", she loves the speakers (thinks they are "pretty"), , however I do not like the DVD player at all, I have a Tosh 220 that is far superior picture wise IMHO.

So I am looking to buy a Amp to replace the Sony and reinstate the Tosh in my main room.

I am not looking for THX or the like just want a Amp that:

    1. Looks nice (WAF):
    2. Silver in colour (WAF).
    3. Will not beat my speakers up, but still have plenty of punch:
    4. Gives DPL 11, 5.1 etc:
    5. Does not cost an arm and a leg.

I am awaiting delivery of a Pioneer plasma, and some leads I am in the throes of ordering, and am keen to do the set up once only.

    Any pointers/help/info greatly appreciated.

    Hi guys,

Getting rid of/replacing speakers not an option sad to say, I was forced ( by virtue of updating my main living room at the time,) "surely your not putting those ugly things back in there !!", )ugly things being a full set of missions.

Yamaha looks interesting if done in silver, will scour around a bit on that one.

Vonhosen, might have been interested but your to far away for me to pop round and have a look by the sound of it, Portsmouth - London 70 odd miles.

Then I'd meet you half way with it for cash & give you a money back guarantee should you not be happy with it.

You'd just have to meet me half way again to return.
    But I think you'd like it ;)

Do the DAVS speakers have a proprietry connection on them so that they can only be used with DAVS system ? (I've never used them myself but these all in one solutions aren't always easy to upgrade part of with)

Vanhosen, ref meeting halfway I will give it some thought.

As far as speaker connection to Davs goes, its not a problem - normal spring terminals.

Yes they do have a proprietry connection on them. But it's just a nasty piece of plastic on one end (which is supposed to go into the DVD player unit - not the speakers) and standard speaker wire on the other.

You can easily cut the plastic off the proprietry end and strip the wire like an normal cable.

I'm not sure why this matters as if you're using a new amp I'd assume you'd use some better speaker wire.

    Hi dimmy,

Might have confused you with my last answer, should have said

"from Davs" and not "to Davs", and the spring terminals I was referring to were the speaker connectors, not the Davs terminals.
