What to do with old Sky box?

I expect this has been asked before but cant seem find it.
I am having Sky+ installed next week and do not know what to do with old box.
Can it be used without a card in another room? does it have to be linked to the dish or can it work as a straight digibox.
If it has to be linked to the dish what are the chances of the installer fitting the cable for me and what would i expect to pay him. Is a cup of coffee enough.

You could probably use it in another room to pick up the freeview channels, but will need to purchase a freesat card at around £20, and also have it connected to the dish.

I would offer him a nice crisp £20.00 note, a cup of coffee and some biccies
It's labour-intensive/tiring stuff running cables neatly.
