I'm currently complying a playlist of classic 1980's / very early 1990's heavy metal that I can listen to on the iPod and on my Onkyo turned up to reminiscence back to my childhood growing up headbanging. I want tunes with that classic 80's and early 90's MTV metal sound - perhaps melodic sound perhaps power ballads with keyboards but still metal)

Any suggestions?

So far I have the following:

Bed of Nails - Alice Cooper
Poison - Alice Cooper
Shot in the Dark - Ozzy Osbourne
Holy Diver - Dio

Can I play with madness - Iron Maiden

Aces High - Iron Maiden
Perfect Strangers - Deep Purple (reformed Mk II)
Ace of Spades - Motorhead
Creeping Death - Metallica
Peace Sells - Megadeth
I am The Law - Anthrax
Rock of Ages - Def Leppard
Still of the Night - Whitesnake
Rock'n'Roll Children - Dio

As much as I love Venom, I think I'll leave that for my future "Blackened Thrash metal" playlist.

Whitesnake - Here I Go Again has been added! along with Can I play with madness - Iron Maiden :smashin: I've also added Hallowed Be Thy Name too! love that song!

Krish - there are some there I haven't heard for a while, so will Spotify them to have a listen

sorry just noticed you mentioned ballads ... the Metallica, Anthrax and Megadeth tracks clearly tend towards the thrash side of things

- I was basically picturing in my head 12" and 7" singles I'd bought at the time plus one or two others

some more :) ....

Who Made Who - AC/DC
Mean Man - W.A.S.P
Gutter Ballet - Savatage
Dr. Stein - Helloween
Rising Force - Yngwie J. Malmsteen (with Joe Lynn Turner)
Love Ain't No Stranger - Whitesnake

You've got to put on the Black Album :- Metallica. One of the greatest albums

I just realised no one has mentioned Van Halen yet! Again there's loads to choose from but this is one of my favourites. Perfect for blaring out the windows of your car on a sunny weekend afternoon!

YouTube - Van Halen-Panama

Skid Row - Just about anything from Slave To The Grind.

I think Van Halen had been neglected up until this point for one very obvious reason

Well with 1984 shifting over 10 million copies alone I guess I'm not the only one who liked them!

Try this for size, don't think its a very well known track and is just before the eighties, but it is one hell of a song. I discovered it early eighties on one of those compilation albums that started to crop up then, loved it immediately, (and still do). Enjoy:smashin:

Motorhead - Ace of Spades

Black Sabbath - Die Young
Black Sabbath - Children of the sea (live)
Black Sabbath - Neon kinghts
Metallica - One
Metallica - Harvester of Sorrow

Foreigner - Jukebox Hero

I was (and still aren't )into 'hair metal', although those bands did undeniably lay some good stuff down. Just not for me.
