    Hey,

OK im going to say this quick.

TV was fine untill just now when I turn it on. Have been playing xbox most of the day. Colours are multicoloured rings.

I thought I might be some sort of magnet maybe. So removed all speakers near the area.

    Anyone got any ideas?

Will include pics in a min.

    Had TV for a week.

    P***ed off.

Whats the "service menu", and how do I get to it. Just for the future this is.

    Cheers,
    Toby

yep - the convergence is f***ed to put it mildly.

I had a not too dissimilar problem with my PD50 which i bought at the end of July......

See my thread titled 'Woo hoo.....'

Panasonic seem to have got something drastically wrong - what exactly were they doing with all that R&D money???

    lol.......

but seriously though they are an international conglomerate who no doubt spend MILLIONS on the R&D into the latest technology.....but cant put it straight and we the consumers have to suffer from what seems to be their gross incompetence.

As you can tell - I'm really peeved off!

We'll they suffer too in the drastic returns rate of cetain products. I have a feeling this is one reason why the PD30 was a short lived product. The PD50 I also get a feeling is just an *makeover* of it's predecessor, making a few *improvements* to entice more sales.Essentially using a old design as it's easy and more cost effective to fill a gap in the market. This in no way makes it right but unless the returns/complaint rate for the same fault is high I can't see them making any mods to rectify such as so many are sold for such a large company and due to this it is expected to have a returns rate as nothing is perfect!

The consumers decide if a product is successful or not. I admit that one has to buy these shody affairs to make such a decision but we do have the right to return products should they prove not fit for the purpose they were built.
With software playing more and more of a part in electronics I'm not surprised in many respects that quality control is failing as it's becoming easier to test by using self test procedures. Unfortunately this does not account for bad hardware design.

Maan you don't like the stuff then :smoke: ?

No, it's not the convergence, it's the purity which has gone.
Even so, it's a duff tube/coils assembly! Looks like the shadowmask has badly warped or maybe, just maybe, the scan coils have come loose from the tube-neck, in which case pushing them back to their original position flush with the back of the tube with some appropriate adhesive might cure the problem.

If you've had it one week from new then swapping it for a new replacement under warranty sounds like a better idea to me.
