Intel & AMD:
Pentium4 or athlon64 ?
im running twin xeons and they make a meal of hidef i chose them over the athlons for this
Twin xeons !! nice, altho they are not that good for gaming are they ?
need 3.o GHZ minimum so get the fastest you an afford as much memory as you can fit and fastest HDD you can find......
PS would a SG O2 workstation handle Hi Def? they were the nuts 5 years ago any good these days or how about SG indigo?
As i understand it, Athlon64 are better for Gaming and Pentium 4's are better for apps, does this still hold true with HDTV ?
xp shifts itsself on to one processor and leaves the other for the game so in truth it runs faster than any other system.
wait for ht supported games thy will see my pc as a 4 processor machine oh and my 2 gig of ram helps and twin wd raptors in raid 0
what speed are your xeons dvd mike ?
If you have to choose between equally priced Athlon and P4, and your primary use will be multimedia (HDTV being one of the purposes), go with the Intel. For games - you'll probaby be better off with Athlon 64.
For MPEG2 based HDTV, the most important part is the hardware accelleration on the video card, not the CPU. It can be done with P4 @ 1.5 Ghz or even less. For WMV-HD - this is what requires at least P4@3 Ghz or equivalent AMD.
