Download speed isn't important. It depends on what your upload speed is.
For example I used to be on NTL 1 meg and had 256 upload, which is fine.
I have friends who are on ADSL 512k and have 256 upload.

If you have 256 upload then depending on the actual speed of your ISP, then you should be able to host many games on Xbox live without a problem.

    Discovered this statement from BT:

    From BT:

    Question
Why is the upload speed of BT Broadband quoted as a range (64-256kbps)?

    Answer
The upstream capacity of BT Broadband is dependent on the distance from your premises to the telephone exchange. The closer you are, the higher the upstream capacity within the range 64-256kbps. As with downstream speed, your upstream speed will vary depending on how busy the BT Broadband network and the Internet are.

So in theory I could have 64kbps upload and 64kbps download!!?

Now I know why they say "Up to 10 times faster than ordinary dial-up." !!!
