    Hi

Im currently using some small Sony speakers which came with an old 5.1 out of the box home cinema package a few years ago, I upgraded the amp last year to the Sony STR-DN1000 but couldn’t afford any speakers at the time. I have read some reviews that the Tannoy SFX 5.1 package goes well with Sony amps but they are a bit cheap and some reviews say their more suited for PC’s. I have up to £300 to spend and I am looking for 3.1 system ideally as I don’t want to run cables around my lounge, but would purchase a 5.1 set if needed and use the additional speakers at a later date.

The only requirement I have is that the speakers aren’t too big especially the centre as I haven’t got room for them, but on the other hand they don’t need to be golf balls.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

On sub/sat system that comes to mind for your budget would be the Boston Accoustics Soundwares which would be better than the Tannoys. That said the Tannoys will be fine with your Sony and are a very popular choice with the budget Sony amps like yours, so would have no issues with those either.
Could you get away with standmount speakers up front? If so have a look at the Wharfedale diamond 9.1 and SW150 package for £250 from Superfi as you will not get a better set of speakers for the money.

Thanks for you quick response, unfortunately I haven’t got space for floorstanders up front.

How do the Boston’s compare with Jamo JA-A102HCS6?

    Regards

The cantons would be a good buy at that price and the Bostons are slightly better than the Jamo A102.

So if you had to choose between the 4, you would choose the Canton's?
