I am hopefully going to order a new lcd today, my viewing distance will be roughtly 3.5-4 metres depending on which sofa i sit on. what is the best size to go for?

I would say 40", minimum, 46" maximum. Go for 46" for 4M distance, and if you watch a lot of 2:35 material.
