    Hello Everybody:)

As some of you will have read, I have just had to return a Panny AE100, due to a colour tinting problem.

I see however, that other reliability problems are continuing to be an issue with this projector.

Given the fact that I miss having a projector so much it hurts, I was wondering if anyone could advise me what to do.

    As I see it, my options are;

    1) Buy another Panny (from a better retailer) and hope I get lucky.

    2) Save up and buy something a bit more expensive, I am thinking about the Philips Monroe maybe:confused: (other ideas would be welcome:) )

    3) Wait and see. Maybe Panasonic will resolve all the faults( no dont laugh, it could happen) Or maybe we will soon see another manufacturer bringing out a budget model that has better reliability.

I realise that option 3 seems to be the most sensible however, I do really really miss having a projector:(

Grateful for any expert advice on this:)

Are you sure you have the option of a refund ? Maybe Panasonic/Your Retailer are only obliged to repair or replace the projector you have.

Thanks Allan, all that has been sorted.

I was entitled to a refund, they tried to avoid giving me one, by saying they couldnt find the fault:mad:

Did I mention that I really, really miss having a projector:(

    Get another one.

I am extremely happy with mine, but am fortunate in not having any problems with it.

Try another, get back on Bens list heheh you know it makes sense.

I've been on that list for over 11 weeks now, no date given for mine yet , nothing.

How long more? Who knows? I'm beyond caring at this stage.

    Don't hold you're breath.

Here is the states, Panasonic makes 2 "business" projectors that are also great for home theater. The 55U and 75U. These projectors are much better quality and backed by a 3 year Panazip replacement warranty. The 55u is 800 x 600 svga and the 75U is 1024 x 768 with MLA. The 55 has a contrast ratio of 500:1 and the 75 is 400: 1. I would look into those.

The panny's popularity stems from the fact that it's by far, even an order of magnitude, the cheapest 'cinema' PJ, all others close are 'data' pj's. What the difference is apart from the shape of the panel is lost on me, mine's a 4:3. You have to put up with a 'grey' strip above and below widescreen material, just like 2.35:1 on the panny, strangely. Ingenious masking with black velvet, sail battens and velcro fastenings has overcome this difficulty for me, I have a budget NEC PJ, the VT440. It's very popular with schools as it's tough enough to take the strain.... Mine's been very good, no problems at all, but I'm sure you could find someone to tell you otherwise. What do you panny users do about 4:3 material, do you have the grey strips at the side then?

it has a just mode similar to widescreen tvs it sort of stretches the picture at the edge of the screen leaving the centre of the picture untouched it works very well IMHO

That must be why I don't have one then, cos that effect drives me up the wall for some reason! I was born to be different I'm afraid. Perhaps I had abad expeience in a hall of mirrors as a young child. It reminds me of the convex vertical distortion! My TV is 4:3 also, and until 16:9 becomes the great majority of broadcast, will remain so. I have my DTB set to 4:3 letterbox, and am amazed at how unusual it is to see black bars.

I`m confused, the majority of TV broadcast is now 16:9 (well any new programs made for major stations,, all adverts etc). Also, the DTB box will be cropping your output, so you wouldn`t see bars anyway, would you?

I see bars when they're there, as you say, in many adverts, and many new programs, but then TV is all repeats these days....

I cant email you, it says you are not accepting them.

I would be happy to give my advice and opinions on this matter but would rather do it via email or pm, as I do not wish to upset any of HCCs advertisers;)
