What should I buy??

Hi gamers, I'm off on holiday in a few weeks and it looks like I'll loose my ipad to my 2 year old daughter, while she watches her films and the misses will be on her ipad it leaves me with nothing to do for a few hours. I've decided I'd quite like a 3ds to pass the time.

I have my X1 at home and am a gamer so a 3ds would get some use after the holiday although maybe not much, who knows!

Thing is I can't see 3d so it's a bit wasted but from what I've read most people play with the 3d off and looking at the games the graphics look pretty dam good. There seems to be a lot more games for the 3ds than the vita plus I grew up on Nintendo any ways.

So my question is what do I get, a 2ds or 3ds

The 2ds is cheaper and I don't need the 3d but the xl has a bigger screen.

Opinions???

You'd think that, but you would be very much mistaken.
But as addyb says, go the XL route, your eyes will thank you for it.

Owned a 3DS XL, then a 2DS and now back to the 3DS XL
I found the 2DS more comfortable to hold but really missed the bigger screen so sold it and went back to the XL (with a grip)

I'm sure it would get loads of use when you return as there are a stack of quality games for it. Mine gets as much use as my other consoles

Just got back from asda and I definitely agree that the 2ds is more comfortable

I'm in the same boat me and my daugther want one between us, she's 5 so the 2ds would be better and I can't see 3d but I feel the bigger screen would be best, what does everyone reckon as 2ds with game in Smyth's is 99.99 at the mo

You guys that's have an xl, do you notice any pixelation at all and how comfy is it to hold??
No pixelation TBH, and it's quite comfy

Quite why anyone would want a 2DS with the really small screens again.
The difference between the 2DS and XL screens is quite a bit, when you look at it.

Thanks for the info pal, if I go xl I'd have to have the white one as it looks lovely.

I've held a 2ds and it's lovely to hold, I had a hold of the xl too but not naked as it was bolted to a security plate. I may have to pop into game in the morning and take a more detailed look I think.

I was in a similar dilemma but decided the 50 quid difference and having to pay extra for a charger on top wasn't worth it so got a 2DS with New Super Mario Bros 2 for £99 in Game. Now wish I'd stumped up the extra for the XL as I'm playing on it so much.

3DS XL all the way.

Bought an original DS when it released then upgraded to the XL the minute it hit the shelves and have never gone back. When the 3DS came out I didn't even bother with it until the XL version released. That's how much better the larger screen makes it.

No pixelation what so ever, the battery lasts the same and the screen is something like, 70% bigger. Winner all the way. Also have a look at the classifieds as there are some great second hand 3DS XL bargains listed at the moment.

Recieved the 3ds today and it's great! Definitely the right choice due to the big screen... Now what games to get?

Depends what you're into and whatever that may be, you're spoilt for choice regardless.

My top games that I would recommend you go out and buy immediately are:

Super Mario 3D Land
Fire Emblem
Bravely Default
Zelda - Link between Worlds
Mario Golf
Mario Kart 7
Pokemon X/Y
Cave Story 3D
Luigi's Mansion - Dark Moon

Downloads:

Steamworld Dig
Nintendo Pocket Football
Fallblox
Pushblox
Art of Balance
VVVVV

Also, I shouldn't have to say this but do not dismiss DS games as there are thousands upon thousands of titles and some of them are utterly stellar.

You made a great choice there Chattoe. I can't get enough of the 3DS XL. Pokémon Y keeps me entertained for hours (I'm in my early 40s a guilty pleasure lol) and I picked up Kirby this weekend and its fun.

My 10 year old nephew is into Minecraft and doesn't understand me wanting to play 'kids' games on the Nintendo. They grow up so quickly these days! lol

When I was a lad I had tabletop Grandstand Astro Wars, Frogger, Caveman and Donkey Kong Junior. I also had King Kong game and watch. An adaptor was a luxury and batteries were warmed by the fire.

I tried the 2DS in Game this weekend. They had 1 pink console in - it looks fantastic in pink I swear! I loved it but the screen was too small. Was like going back to the DS Lite days. 3DS XL all the way. Trade it in and join the big screen brigade. You won't regret it!
