NOTICE:- stop reading this thread if you hate film spoilers!

Following on from the "scaredy cat" thread.

What scene in a film mad you jump the most? (even if the rest of the film wasn't that scary etc).
You know the ones i mean, the ones that take you ages to settle back down into the film.

When i was younger it was the alien popping out of that guys chest in "Alien".

Recent heart stopping "shock" scenes are...

When the shark grabs Samuel L Jackson in Deep Blue Sea, the wife let out the loudest scream i have ever heard and she flew backwards up the couch. She doesn't normally make a sound!.

When the girl steps into the road in "Final Destination", and the bus wipes her out. TOTALLY unexpected!, had to check my kecks for lumps.

So come on! give us some other unexpected shock scenes...

Run Lola Run the scene just after her boyfriend has knicked the cash out the supermarket and they are cornered in the street...I was totally taken by surprise by what happened next....my jaw hit the floor and my mind went mad trying to work out how the film could continue....

    Gordon

WARNING: FILM PLOT SPOILERS ON THIS POST.

    Hi fulabeer

I agree the scene in 'Final Destination' where the GIRL walks in front of the bus its pretty jumpy. The other scene in the film that had me reaching for the heart pills was when the two agents open the door in the interogation room after the plane has blown up!. On watching the DVD a second time with the directors commentary on they purposely upped the sound on the door to "liven" the scene up!.

Other good jumpy scenes in other films are:

    1) 'Jaws' - Head popping out of boat.

    2) 'Halloween' - Michael Myers sitting up long after you thought Laurie had killed him.

    3) 'Carrie' - Hand coming out of the ground in the dream seqence at the end of the film.

    4) 'Don't Look Now' - Donald Sutherland finally catching up with the mysterious person in the red duffal coat.

    5) 'Exorsist III' - Scene in hospital where a woman in white gown runs across the corridor in the background behind George C Scott's character in the fore ground.

    6) 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' - Didn't find this film very scary at all, except for the scene where the kids venture into the house and a guy is looking at various hunting trophies on a wall in a very disturbing looking red room. Leatherface suddenly leaps out and whacks the guy in the head with a sledgehammer and drags him out of sight by slamming a metal grate across the corridor.

Plenty of other scenes that made me jump I'm sure. But can't remember any more at the moment.

    Cheers.

    100% agree with Darth.
For me it was Ben Gardner's head appearing through the hole in his boat.
Made me jump a mile aged 10 when I saw Jaws at the cinema.

Not 100% sure but I think that the film was Guns of Navarone when they are scaling the cliff and disturb the seagulls.

Superb use of silence to create tension.

Most jumpy film ever has to be The Others, even more so than FD. I can't wait to see it again, especially the bit with the door...

Final Destination where the girl gets hit by the bus. We were in the front row of the cinema and I leapt out of my seat. The way they build up making you think it's going to be the guy on the bike and suddenly BAM.

a few of my faves are ...
Another scene in The Haunting - early on when just B4 the piano wire snaps & hits the woman in the eye there is a loud crack (from the fire I presume) - On the 6.1ES this crack comes directly behind you & made me almost sh!t myself ...
On the Fantasia 2000 disc the final track Firebird Suite there's a bit when it goes from very quiet to very loud - the first time I watched this I was drinking a cup of coffee & still have the scars to prove it !!! ...
On Castaway when the plane gets hit ...
    Paul ;)

Crocodile Dundee In LA. The bit where Mick Dundee and his mate are sitting in a tree at the beggining and a big croc jumps out at them.

Found this film really funny as well. That was quite a shock in itself as I didn't really like the other 2.

    Warning *** SPOILERS ***

You have all missed the obvious one - WHAT LIES BENEATH

The eye in the wood knot - you know it's coming - but even so...

Harrison Ford's hand by the side of the bath - you know it's coming etc...

The body in the lake when it turns around - you know it's coming ...

I think I watched the entire film with my stomach clenched and my missus hanging on for dear life. If you want a movie to really get close to your loved ones with - this is the one.

    Cheers

I just noticed the really bad compositing and was prepared for something to happen, same with most of the things that happened in the film.

Mines recently was The Others(R3) with Nicole Kidman, the bit when shes pushing the door in the Piano Room and it keeps on closing slowly, so she keeps on pushing it open then suddenly it slams in her face.

Totally bricked myself one of the best films i've watched with DTS the soundtrack is amazing.

    I far as I'm concerned
Aliens, where the face hugger stuck in the lab tube suddenly moves & makes (I can't remember if it was Ripley or one of the commandos) jump. It made me & 1200 other people watching the film at the same time JUMP!

What made me jump most was in Alien 3 at the very start of the film in the titles, the face hugger cracks the canopy of one of the life support pods. I saw this on VHS first, not in the cinema, had the room all dark and the amp turned up loud. I thought, christ the film has only just started and already I'm jumping. :D
