    Hi

Looking for the best picture I can get from my panasonic s97 into my sim2 ht200dm and panny 6 series plasma anyone help?

The Sim2 says it will do 848x480 pixels and 480p,720p,1080i?

Is it worth spending a lot of money on a scaler with this pj?

I also have sky+ connected to the plasma via a js rgb>vga box.

What about importing a iscan hd+ from lenexpo electronics in the states anyone done that?If projectiondreams sells em for 775 pound with no u.k.plug why cant you import it yourself and do the same with the plug? And save 100 quid?Would customs get you??

    Thanks a lot,
    Phil

    Hi Phil,
I get a bulk price -when Import duty and VAT are taken into the equation you may find it difficult to match my price-which is the best price in the u.k. at the moment!

...and of course I have done all the leg work for you!

    Hello all

    ProjectionDream

Yours is the best price for what? An iScanHD+ that's not come through the manufacturers Distribution channel - I'd say yours is possibly the ONLY price for one of those in the UK :)

    philb

At a guess I'd say 1280x720P is going to work best with both your Display and DLP Projector - though you'd want to try it out first to ensure it offers the improvements your looking for.

I can say for sure it will make a very worthwhile improvement with your Display though I have less experience using this Processor with your Projector.

Keep in mind DVDO don't ship to end users in the UK and I doubt you or any second user would get any support from DVDO or its UK Distributor in the event your 'personal import' via a US Retailer via a UK Reseller went wrong!!!

    Best regards

    Joe

It did cross my mind - if you hadn't put the Display into the equation then I'd have suggested you have a look at what a more up to date DLP can offer you and compare that to your current DLP + Video Processor.

    Best regards

What? So it was legit, up until the point it exited whichever country you bought it from??? No matter how you dress it up it still sounds like an import to me, which means it still sounds like it won't have a manufacturers warranty.

In fact is not you at the bottom of this page:

    http://www.dvdo.com/res/unauthorized.php

How are you going to gaurantee your client that you will be able to provide the support this product deserves when you are actively listed as a DVDO UNAUTHORISED RESELLER??? Or is it a case that once you've got their money it's off to the next person.

For what it's worth, I've bought stuff directly from both Projection Dreams and from Owl Video.

I would not hesitate to go back to Projection Dreams again, it was an entirely positive experience before and after purchase.

I will never have anything to do with Owl Video again. I do not trust them, and they didn't want to have anything to do with me afterwards when I had problems.

Just my 2p worth based on direct experience.

    Nick :)

Just the fact that you've bought directly from a trade-only distributor only reinforces your comments about Owl!!!!!!! However while I'm in no position to comment on the quality of projection dreams work (which from crossings on other forums he sounds like he's a rare one that actually knows what he is talking about) he is still an UNauthorized reseller of iScans end of story. Buyer beware, if the unit fails 6 weeks down the line you could easily have nobody to fall back on.

I have imported scalers from US before. I am not sure I would recommend this to anyone. I would stick with official UK supply and support. Had my fingers burned....especially in PAL land.

I think they were trying to dump stuff they couldn't shift anywhere else, and when I had a problem, they seemd to be quite unable to sort it out. In the end they tried to fob me off with an older and inferior product that they just happened to have lying around, hoping I wouldn't know any better. I guess I got my fingers burned a bit, too, but at least I managed to move it on without making a loss. Lessons learned.....

With regard to after-sales support from Projection Dreams, I don't think anyone should make any assuptions about what support they would or wouldn't get, but should establish that before any sale. Just because he is not an authorised reseller doesn't mean that he will leave you up the creek. I though my positive experience was relevant to this discussion because I trust him. I reckon on dealing with facts rather than suppositions.

I've imported stuff from the US, Hong Kong and China without any problems at all, and would love to get serious HW like HiFI, projectors and scalers from the US, but I think I would rather rely on someone else to take the risks and find the problems for me.

Do you know, I even saw someone in Watford sell a Samsung HLR6768 TV in that unmentionable on-line auction place. You know, that 67" 1080p DLP RPTV that only accepts 60 Hz video - how the hell did that get over here???

I had just the opposite experience with Owl Video, I had a problem, they sorted it out straight away.

    Just my 2 cents worth.

I don't think this is about the service PD will give, many of us regularly use small specialist that 'import' regularly and we are more than happy. I think it is more about the lack of support the manufacturers give when they find out the product is 'grey' but especially in the grey (scaler) market. Scalers are the worst example of this, mind you DVDO didn't want to know with an 'official' product either :( I have two examples of one particular scaler, one is PAL tuned and one is NTSC tuned for this reason!!

    Not true.

    4 words:

    Sale of Goods Act.

I'd be pretty astonished if the concept of an "authorised" seller of a particular manufacturer's product even stood up in court in this country.

DVDO will give customers support regardless of where they have purchased our products. If you are in the UK, and you have purchased from a NON-AUTHORIZED DVDO Reseller, than OWL has every right not to support you and we support their decision. If you are in this situation your only option is to send your unit to the US for service, because effectively you purchased the unit from a US Reseller.

Not when I asked for it :( with UK supplied DVDO unit. DVDO and OWL BOTH ignored repeated simple emails and the issue went unresolved. No one even made an effort.

Like I said before, I received great service from Owl. Josh, nice to here from someone from DVDO, you should post more to offer a more balanced view to these forums.

It seems like if someone say's I am thinking of getting a HD+ for this setup, the stock answer is, "Get a Lumagen". It would be nice to here sometimes how a different product would suit a particular setup.

I'm sure the answer's yes, but just to check, did it work OK with PAL sources and 240V mains?

Nic, yes sorry I was. But, on these forums there are many hardant Lumagen supporters who voice their opinions (I am noy saying this is wrong - Its a forum after all) that Lumagen products are far better than anything else on the market. I was trying to say that views from a different angle would make this a more balanced place for people to read and make up their own minds.

Further more, I am not saying that Lumagens are not streets ahead of everything else either, maybe they are.

Anyway Nic, that's the last of the "L" word.

    All the best mate.
