what box and other bits do i need to recieve hidef in uk thanks
I'd wait for Sky HD.
Why buy another satellite box and dish to watch foreign hd tv?????
movies before sky, premier league footy, music, documentarys, cartoons all in english, and loads of other english channels such as sky news, bbc prime, cnn, bbc world all in english. yes please!
and probably gonna be in HD way before sky pull their finger out...
so any ideas any1
i dont know of any HD sat boxes yet, ya probably better trying another 'dedicated' forum really, try www.satellites.co.uk
This thread should help - http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=130143
Also http://www.parabolic.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=199 for a euro1080 STB, but MPEG2 only
the stb route is gonna expensive coz its new, but you can get HD through a pc with dvbs card in it, like the skystar2.
and although this takes some SERIOUS playin and tweaking, this is how i'll be getting HD to start with anyway...
My view is that with EURO1080 coming to the same satellites that carry the SKY service and using the same codec for High Def it's highly likely the SKY HD box will allow viewing of HD1/2. Wouldn't surprise me at all if they are bundled into a SKY package as well as being a standalone service.
If this is the case then waiting a few months might make sense if indeed SKY launch even a partial service.
You also have to remember that mpegII is more or less dead as a codec for mainstream consumer driven HD in Europe so buying a dedicated STB which only handles mpegII for EURO1080 and the odd FTA broadcast (which may not last) is risky.
thanks guys very helpfull indeed
just to let ya know, i will be buying a Dreambox DM8000 in summer 2006 for my 'foreign' HD needs... should be able to hand ANYTHING you can throw at it...
