Hi All,

I recently replaced my Wharfedale Diamond 10.1’s with some Q Acoustics 3020’s. I love the detail on the Q’s but they are massively lacking in bass compared with the 10.1’s.

I therefore want to pair them with a subwoofer - preferably from Q Acoustics as I’m a bit fussy with matching the aesthetics........

Trouble is I’ve not read many favourable reviews regarding the Q sub range. I’m looking for some honest advice/reviews from anyone with either the 3020’s matched with a Q sub or another make. I’m slightly bemused by the number of slimline models Q Acoustics have, is there a stand out one from any of these - 3060s, 3070s, 7060s, 2070si, 7070si.

Budget is around the £300 mark and I
mainly listen to music (eclectic taste) but do like a good bass response.

Thanks,

Mike.

PS: I like the look of the Cambridge Audio Minx X301 and think on looks it would be a nice match with the 3020’s.......would this be better than any of the Q sub range as there is £50 off in Richer Sounds at the moment....

The Q subs are OK if you need a slim bass solution, but in all honesty they just aren't very good.

mmm, that’s the feeling I’ve been getting unfortunately!!

Any views on the X301?

I've no direct experience of it, but for the money the specs look decent and on paper it certainly looks better than the Q subs. It's got a decent amount of power and uses a passive radiator to boost output. In all honesty though, I would look at the BK options as the amplification will be stronger and the drivers are very likely better, I'd be surprised if the CA sub was using a driver as good as the peerless drivers favoured by BK.

Thanks for your reply, I’ve settled on the Roth Oli KH30, 100 quid cheaper at £216 and has had excellent reviews, might not be up there with the big budget boys but I’m sure it will give me enough boom for the buck.

Thanks again

Mike.

Hi, just wondering how you got on with the Roth Oli KH30? I've just received the QA 3020i and 3010i for rears and 3090i centre, but no sub yet.... A decent size room 6x5. Any feedback would be appreciated
Thanks
Gordon

i have owned 3070 and a bk xls200 mk2, both sold. i prefer the 2070 than the 3070.. its better build quality, bigger rubber surrounds and more features. the 3070 looks like a cut down version of the 2070. i bet the 3070 has a bigger mark up than the 2070.

i also have a rel r205 and a canton sub from the cd01 package. the 2070 is my favourite. great value for money if u can find one. deep, loud and capable of filling my 27 foot long open plan room

Hello,
Are you sure 2070si had different bass drivers than 3070? it seems they're exactly same drivers. I also had 2070 for a short time then received 3070 but bass response from 2070 was stronger/deeper/punchier, i couldn't have that joy from 3070...But i'm not sure about different drivers, they seemed to be same.

btw, i replaced all crappy capacitors (%100 of the caps in the amp.) in the amplifier with high grade ones like from Elna, Nichicon, after that modification, bass is clearly stronger, faster and punchier.

The drivers on the 2070 definitely don't look the same as the 3070. The surrounds are larger. The 2070 is the better subwoofer.

The 3070 has a flat plastic ring around the driver giving the illusion of bigger drivers, whereas the 2070 has thicker/beefier surrounds without that cosmetic ring piece. The driver surrounds on the 3070 also feel a bit cheaper, lighter in colour. Im sure the 2070 drivers have more excursion.

dude you're totally wrong :) i just torn down my 3070 and it has exactly same woofers with 2070, part numbers on the woofers are just same.
here are the photos, if you can check youtube videos of 2070, you'll see same p/n on the drivers. Both
2070 and 3070 have 4ohm p/n: BQ04-166S05 drivers.

those are yours, but the 3070 and 2070 i have are definitely different. the surrounds on my 2070 is definitely thicker than the surrounds on the 3070 i had.

what year is your 3070 made? is it the same batch as the one i had?

do you have a 2070?

I had 2070 in the past, currently only 3070 i bought it more than a year ago, batch / serial number behind of the amp is qa3078021700471

just to be clear i have the 2070si as opposed to the 2070s.

are you comparing the part number for the 2070si or the 2070s? are there even two versions of the 2070?

I have found the video showing the woofer of a 2070.

There is another number next to where it says 4 ohms and those numbers are different.

I've no idea if that's the part number.

Anyway, the 3070 i had definitely had smaller surrounds.

Damn guys. Time to dump the mid bass modules and get subwoofers.
these things sound a lot better than many more expensive subwoofers in music tracks, punch, response, speed i got from these mid bass are much better than many subs :) just try it in music.
