Hi all. I've treated myself to a EVGA 8800GTS 512mb card  and wanted to try lots of PC games out. Perhaps download the demos first to see what games I like.

I generally like RPG, FPS and horror games and here is a list of the PC games I already have:

    FULL GAMES:

    S.t.a.l.k.e.r: Shadow of Chernobyl
    Prey
    Condemned: Criminal Origins
    Splinter Cell: Double Agent

    DEMOS:

    Far Cry
    Crysis
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
    F.E.A.R: Perseus Mandate
    Hell In Vietnam
    The Witcher
    Bioshock

I am willing to try out different game styles and any recommendations you suggest. Including even older games, as Far Cry looks good and Just Cause from what I have seen on the internet looks ok too. Apart from nzone, are there any other good websites to download demos from?

    What do you suggest??

Thanks I will try out those website. I've already got some of those games on Sony PS3 but some of the other look good. I'm using Windows XP.

I am amazed how much better my gaming is. My 3DMark05 score has risen from 5990 (my old 7800GT 256mb) to 12345 with my new card.

I might look at older games too on play.com/Amazon and try and get some bargains!:smashin:

I also have a PS3 and a 360 and the pc games look totally different. Especially the likes of Time Shift, MOH, Oblivion, Lost Planet, Stranglehold. The difference is night and day. What resolution is your display? :)

Well I have a Viewsonic 19inch VX922 LCD and the maximum native resolution is 1280x1024, which is fine for now, although I might in 6months-1year (funds permitting) upgrade to a 24inch such as the Dell. I apprieciate that any PC game at 1920x1200 for example would out perform any console game in looks but

A 24" monitor for gaming is an excellent choice, I upgraded last year and it was one of the best upgrades I ever made. It totally transforms the look of the game.

Even at 1280x1024 you will notice a vast improvement. At this res you will also be able to ramp up the AA and AF. On the 8 series cards they have in the AA settings 8xQ and 16xQ. Use these settings as they use less processing power to obtain 16x AA.

16xQ AA uses the same power as 4x AA.

You should be able to run most games with 16xQ AA and 16xAF. I also like to enable Supersampling in the Nvidia control panel. :)

As you've got a Nvidia graphics card, you can download a demo of Portal from Steam here.

You'll also get Locst Coast, HL Deathmatch and best of all Peggle Extreme (a HL themed demo!)

Ok, So I've downloaded the game demos that I've found online and would now like people's recommendations of full games.

What full games should I buy that is a must have, either old or new and please include lesser known games. I like RPG, action, FPS and horror games. PC games I already have:

    S.t.a.l.k.e.r: Shadow of Chernobyl (PC)
    Prey (PC)
    Condemned: Criminal Origins (PC)
    Splinter Cell: Double Agent (PC)
    M.O.H:Airbourne (PS3)
    Stranglehold (PS3)
    F.E.A.R. (PS3)
    Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (PS3)
    R6V (PS3)

Perhaps you could give me a list with your ratings out of ten, just as a guide. I downloaded "Pathologic" but this was crap and the "Barrow Hill" demo being point and click I didn't like either. Also, I don't intend to buy a game for the PC that I already have on the Playstation 3.

I think I will buy Far Cry, The Witcher and Bioshock. I intend to buy Crysis one day. But what others??

I would however add Overlord and Bioshock.

You asked for old games so I'll naturally recommend Deus Ex (one of my favourites on any format) - it's only c£6 on Steam. Also The Longest Journey is worth a look, however you may not like it as it's a point and click adventure - great game though.
