Back in summer 2004 I bought my first projector, a Panasonic AE500. I use it everyday and I don't have any other display worth using. So I tend to turn it on when I get home from work and leave it on until I go to bed if I'm in all evening which is about 6 hours. Then at weekends I often use it for 12 hours a day.
The first lamp lasted me about 2500 hours as expected. The second was shorter and I think the last 2 have only lasted me about 1000hrs now I'm on 700hours with my current lamp and last night while using the forums there was a sudden huge drop in brightness, so it looks like I've lost another one.
Also the LCDs are starting to fail, at least I'm sure the blue one is. It retains blue blotches where dark areas have been and I think the detail and brightness is all getting worse and no amount of recalibrating will help.
I've thought about getting a plasma but I can't afford one big enough (I think I'd need at least 65") I use it for my computer a lot and I wouldn't be able to read text if it was much smaller. And after seeing my friends plasma I'm really put off that some sets have blockyness in dark scenes and posterization.
I've got my eye on the Panasonic AX100 but I'm worried it'll be the same story of having to pay £200 for lamps that only last hundreds of hours.
I can't wait for LED projectors or similar to come along because my current lamp is already unacceptable.
What other solutions are there?
Please Help!
