What needs to be copied to NAS to keep iTunes music in sync with PC?

Standard Member
I am installing a QNAP-101 NAS for music streaming. I curently have my collection of music in the iTunes library on my C: drive. I intend to continue to maintain the music on the c: drive and to copy it over to the NAS after ripping CDs to iTunes. Once on the NAS I will use SlimServer installed on the NAS to stream to my SB3. When I look in the iTunes folders it is not exactly clear what all would have to copy over to the NAS. I do not what to lose my iTunes playlists in this process. If anyone could help with advice it would be much appreciated.

All you should need to do is go to iTunes preferences and specify your NAS address as the iTunes directory. Once you've done this you can consolidate the iTunes library, and it should copy all the music files from your C: drive to the NAS automatically. Your playlists etc will be kept. Depending on how you've arranged your music you might prefer for iTunes to not rearrange your music whilst it's copying.

If you copy and paste outside of iTunes then you'll lose the playlists.
