I was just wondering, what is the cheapest media for recording from broadcast television and archiving? Is it to USB flash memory, hard disc drive or DVD etc?

Any set top box that records freeview or satellite free to air with no DRM (encryption) to USB storage be it flash, HDD etc.

You can do whatever you want with the video from there as its just a digital video.

In terms of cost well USB flash drives easily outclasses DVD in terms of capacity, a 32GB USB flash drive is around £6-7 and you could have multiple copies in case one fails.

Thank you. Yes, probably a hard disc drive is more cost effective as you can pick up a terrabyte from around £20 nowadays. So I suppose DVD/blu-ray have been superseded cost wise.
