Infinity Ward are busily working away on Modern Warfare 2, we hope, and I've heard that they aren't shy of tinkering with things, so it got me thinking, what is the most fundamental characteristic of COD which, if changed, would render it... well, not COD I suppose. Is it the graphics, the gameplay, sound, the physics, or what?

COD4 multiplayer would be the speed you can be playing, couple of mins after firing up the PS3 and you are good to go!!

Graphics are great, animations of charactors are very good in 4, guns and explosions are well done.

MW2 needs more destructable scenery, new guns and an online co-op and jobs a carrot:thumbsup:

    Immersiveness.

COD has it in bucket loads - you get sucked right in and you get lost in the game. :smashin:

For me it's the controls, the graphics and the smoothness of play.

Its all about the Online MP!

The weapons, the perks, the option of prestiging, the gun animations and sounds, the impacts on the enemy.

    Its brilliant!

Almost forgot - World at War not only intorduced "mole mode" where you can go underground and shoot people in the feet but also "superman mode" where you really can fly........well hover would be more accurate and in addition to these superb features, coloured and bouncing names!

    I'll get me coat............................

Before COD, I never used the word "glitch".

Before COD, "camping" just referred to shivering under a bit of canvas in the middle of a muddy field.

Before COD, I'd never received messages from strangers calling me a "noob", "retard", ":censored:", ":censored:", or ":censored:".

60fps and the hit detection (the sound of bullets entering your opponent is not something i've found other games do very well, it's quite satisfying in a morbid way)

The framerate needs to be the same though, if cod4 was 30 I reckon it'd play like any other military shooter.

Agree with that, (the sound of) headshots in particular is very satisfying, not something i'd seen or heard before in an fps

Although that (hopefully) will no longer be the case

Unless you're standing next to the player who just got "dinged", then it's the sound of impending death :D

    Nuff said!

I like the 'x' which indicates you've hit someone - and when they are behind a wall, simply lower your sight a fraction then shoot, 'x' again = they be dead!

One word for me Realism, particularly COD4. Thats what got me into gaming so it must be good, immersive and represent what you can imagine military conflict to be like.
