I will start the ball rolling with -

    Muse; Absolution.

To me, Muse are the best band from the UK for a long old while. Much like the first two albums, it chock full of riffs, superb melody and some awesome drumming. Cant fault it.

    In summary, pure genius.

What would you say is the best album of 03 ?

    cheers,

    Cap:smashin:

    In reverse order, pop-pickers!

At 5, we have Muse with 'Absolution'... a triumphal kick ass rock album, but just not as great as everyone makes out. 'Origin Of Symmetry' was better. Still awesome.

At 4 is Nostromo with 'Eccelex', the hardest, noisest, most heart pounding, head breaking hardcore metal of the year. Superb!

At 3, Sikth and 'The Trees Are Dead blah blah blah'... a fantastic metal album from which you always come away with something new on each listen.

At 2, with the most accomplished new record of 2003, Radiohead with 'Hail To The Thief'... hard to explain what genius this record is... but of course, it's Radiohead.

But at number 1, and my favourite album of the whole year, is The Cooper Temple Clause with 'Kick Up The Fire, And Let The Flames Break Loose'. Simply perfect. It rocks, it asks questions, it answers them, it simply kicks ass and if you haven't bought it then you're a fool!

    Rancid - Indestructible
Iron Maiden - Dance Of Death
Eater - The Eater Chronicles - released this year but originally 1976. I've only just found out that the drummer with this band was only 14 when they started gigging in pubs

Kings of Leon - Youth and Young manhood

I would class these guys as the best band in existence - and after seeing them live, i'm completely overwhelmed.

    Other than that
    The Strokes Room on Fire
    JET's album
    White Stripes Elephant
    The Coral Magic and Medicine

Repeating things others have voted, but I'd go for

    Jet - Get born
Joe Strummer / Mescaleros - Streetcore
Belle & Sebastian - Dear catastrophe waitress

I reckon it's actually been quite a good year musically, the problem is that it's becoming ever more tiresome to wade through the ever increasing mountains of pop idol winners, pop idol rejects, and godawful boy/girl bands singing similar songs about similar cack.

If you can dig through all that lot there's been some excellent stuff.

    1. The Sleepy Jackson, Lovers.
    2. Kings of Leon, Youth & Young Manhood.
    3. Grandaddy, Sumday.
All in all not a bad year for tunes, with old timers such as Blur and Radiohead releasing there best albums for years with some decent new bands coming through aswell.

Im really struggling with 'Hail to the thief'. I listen to a massively eclectic mix of music, but several attempts later I have still ejected it before the last few tracks.

Every review, virtually everyone on this forum likes it, I like all the other albums including the dreaded Kid A, but I just cant get into this one. For some reason it sounds like an attempt at a dance style, like orbital or underworld, but very downbeat and dirge like.

I'm impressed with Hail to the Thief, Nocturam and Elephant. But my favourite album this year has to be:

Magic and Medicine, by the Coral.

I doubt it'll go down as a classic, but I love it to bits.

I think I'll be treating myself to this in the post-Xmas comedown. Been recommended to me loads of times by friends and to top it all, caught a track of theirs on one of the music channels the other day and thought it was teriffic despite not knowing it was them until the end.

So, I'll have that and the Bonne 'Prince' Billy album, I think.
