What does WOOT mean? I don't like it...for some reason I really get ****** off when I read it or hear it when online...where did it come from? Why is it here? Does it annoy anyone else?

w00t (to give it its "official" spelling) is one of the most common 1337 (that's pronounced leet, and means elite) words in common usage across the online gaming community. It just really means "Yes!", "All right!!", "Excellent!" or equivalent. Some people have now suggested it means "We 0wned the 0ther team", and it can also be used in online shopping to mean "want 0ne 0f those". For more info, have a look at wikipedia's entry here, or their entry for 1337.

Although I don't tend to use leetspeak that much, w00t is one that I quite like.

It's language for people who have limited vocabulary and grammar who should get out more and meet members of the opposite sex, rather than spending all day being fanatical fanboys. :suicide:

i remember seeing w00t on wwp about 5 years ago, back then it was another way of saying "WHAAAT!" ("what" as in another way of saying, wow nice run, nice shot, etc)
nowadays people use it all the time without even knowing what it means

Have to say the elite speak (clearly elite means "I'm a girlfriendless geek and I couldn't be further from "the elite" if I tried") is really annoying - when they say "we totally pwned them" (meaning we "owned" them - as opposed to porn which apparently is pr0n).

Between this and SMS text messaging - no wonder I have trouble reading emails from people at work, I need an Interpreter!

pwned = owned
pr0n = porn

Its just a joke guys, don't take it so damn seriously

C'mon Crispy there's a difference between an acronym and this "leet" speak stuff :) But true - I'd never have got ET was Wolfenstein.

Not really Seth, its all shortening just like people do with text messaging, 1337 speak is different, its mainly used as a joke if not its generally used to bypass search engines and the like

I'm a bit of an ET addict - i do forget that most people here in the UK are not really into it. Hopefully RtcW2 should change that! :D

So do I, doesn't mean I'm above people who don't though.

If its any use I'm 25, not sure how big a generation gap you are talking about though :)

Wasn't suggesting I was "above" anyone, sorry if it was taken that way.
It did come across that way, sorry for the mis-understanding
