Is video 8 another name for 8mm because i got a sharp viewcam
8mm for a very cheap price and bought a 3 pack of sony
video 8 tapes and it has already chewed 2 of my tapes.

Am i using the wrong tapes or is my camcorder duff.

Please help a first time buyer

Video 8 = 8mm video. If the tape physically fits into the machine, then iot's the right tape. Differeing formats are sufficiently different that there's no way you'd ever get the wrong tape into the wrong machine. Anyhow, Sharps were Video8. IIRC Video8 was Sony's term for 8mm video.

Seems like the camcorder is in need of an overhaul.

It's well known that Sony tapes only really work well with Sony camcorders and on various websites it suggests that the don't work with Sharp or JVC camcorders (chews the tape to pieces!!) I would try another brand and see what happens
