What is this connection called?

Hi,

I was wondering if anybody could help me out. I'm after the name of the connection thats commonly found on the back of plasma televisions, and most hifis (as far as I'm aware)!

The wires go underneath a kind of clip, coloured red and black. I'm finding it difficult to describe so hopefully someone knows what I'm on about!

Thanks. :)

RCA or Phono Connections, athough the Black is substituted by White on most gear nowadays.

Not sure, but these could be the speaker terminals for the speaker wire to connect to. Some plasma's do have these outputs. They are sometimes known as spring clip terminals. Might be wrong though, without a picture of a model number of plasma or hifi :)

Cheers

Thanks for the quick reply nsherin!

After doing a quick search on Google and eBay for RCA and phono, it seems they all have plugs on the end. Is there a more specific word for the ones with the flat wire?

Sorry for my ignorance, I guess it's pretty obvious I'm a beginner!

As LFCrules stated they are speaker cable connectors called springclips. One is for the right speaker and you guessed it the other is for the left.

There should be 4 in total (2 black 2 red), allowing for a circuit to be created with the speakers.

Most serious hifi's use something called a bindingpost, that allow much thicker cables, and generally look like a small column (1cm tall) which has a coloured thread that unscrews and allows a speaker cable to be clamped in place.

I don't think there is a word for the flat part of the spring clip connector, other than the springclip i guess

I don't think it's been mentioned, but the convention is red for positive with speaker connections, but it doesn't matter as long as you're consistent.

You can get cable terminators which make it easier to to fit multi-strand cables into the clips, but this is usually not a problem with thin cables.
