    Hi!

I’ve managed to break the part that holds a disc in the middle of the DVD tray on my laptop. The part has ball bearings and springs in it, but I don’t know what it is called or where I can order a new one from. I’ve heard people use the term ‘hub’ for the part, but I can’t seem to find one online. Hopefully someone on this forum will know.

    Many thanks.

    Neil.

It may be easier to simply replace the DVD drive in 9mm or 12mm form factor, many laptops use a standardized optical drive that is removable. Sometimes all you have to do is change the plastic bezel on the front so it matches the laptop casing (take it off the broken drive), in some cases you don't even have to do that.

You can also canalize that drive for that part if it will match your existing one, it's only £16.
