for the summary of a book that is written on the back...

I googled it and I came across the "Blurb"

But this doesn't seem to spark anything in my mind... does it have a proper name?
Or am I just being mad in thinking I know it as some other name

No this is different. This is like a summary of events that happen after the story has finished. A prologue is a summary of events that happen before the story begins.

Isn't that more of an ending to a drama piece?

This could well be the word I wanted...

    All I can find is:

    Back Cover
Brief description of book's content (blurb)
Author photo & qualifications (optional, but highly
    recommended)
Along with: Blurb - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    I second 'synopsis'.

Another word but not quite the same thing is 'precis' (which is a short summary of a larger document).

    Cheers,

    Nigel

Yeah Synopsis seems good enough, I thought it had an official name to it but it seems not... Synopsis pretty much covers it, I don't like the term Blurb, doesn't sound right.

    Thanks folks!

Blurb actually is in the dictionary now. I guess it's one of those common use words that have been adopted.

It could also be an abridgment or an abstract.

I've known it as blurb for many years and it's been in the dictionary since early last century. Synopsis is fine too as that is a summary, but can be applied to anything.

I know it as "cover notes", if you are referring to the blurb that is a synopsis of the book on the outside cover.

Or sometimes "sleeve notes", that not many books have sleeves anymore

I know, I just said that :) The OP asked about the notes on the back. Doesn't matter if its physically on the book or its sleeve.

I know, that's why I repeated it, with the emphasis on the italics..... :)
