What is the USB port for?

Standard Member
Finally, my first thread on AVForums! I love this site!
I was wondering if the USB port on TVs these days is useful at all. For example, would it play a BluRay ripped movie in .mkv format from a memory stick?
Thanks in advance!

My Samsung Series 6 plays .avi formats direct from a USB stick (maybe other formats, haven't tried) so your TV will probably do similar?
