The new pHilips with PAL and NTSC progressive scan thats on sale at Hifizone. What percentage in picture quality drop will it be from a HCPC to this new philips.

My heart says HCPC but my head says this new Philips.Just noticed the Philips DVD-Q50 as well does progressive in pal and ntsc but it doesnt do sacd, whats sacd, will i need it.

ASre these 2 players virtually the same apart from the sacd on the more expensive one.

If you use a transcoder ( component to rgb converter), the difference will be very small and you don't have the hassle of a PC.

Even if you don't use a transcoder and use the component input the difference is very small as we proved last weekend at Shocks mini shootout. If you can afford it I'd go for the 962SA as it's fantastic and is better for CD playback and of course has Super Audio CD which sounds fantastic.

    Cheers

I'm with Andy, after seeing the 962SA at the shootout via component vs HCPC I feel that HCPC aren't worth the extra headf**k when you consider that the step up is not as big as I was lead to believe.IMP
Also is the Q50 an inport model as the UK one doesn't do pro scan
I must admit that I do like the look of the Q50 over the 962SA

There are UK companies claiming PS from the Q50. There claims are false. Only available from R3 as stated above. Be warned.

They are less than friendly when challenged.....

I sent an email to hivizone asking about the Q50 and 962 and heres the reply.

    Hi there,
im interested in the 2 Philips DVD players you have that do PAL and NTSC
progressive scan. The Philips Q50 and the Philips 962SA.

Firstly im not bothered about SACD and the player is to go into the Panasonic PT AE100 projector.

Is there a difference in picture quality between these 2 players as like I say the SACD is something im not bothered about.

*There is no visible difference in picture quality between the 2 DVD players. *

Ive heard bad things about problems with the Q50 has this been resolved now with new firmware etc. If theres no difference in picture quality id go for the Q50 as ive heard its the same as the 962sa but without SACD playback..correct??? And you can definalty say BOTH these players do NTSC and PAL progressive scan.

*The problems of Q50 have been solved after the firmware upgrade is released.
If you do not need SACD playback, Q50 should be your choice. Both DVD players can output NTSC and PAL progressive scan.

We look forward to your order! *

So if im not bothered about SACD the Q50 is worth it.
