What is the best way to view a 2:35:1 ratio movie on a 16:9 tv

    hi there
    does anyone know the best way to view a 2:35:1 ratio dvd or movie on a 16:9 widescreen tv
    i have a samsung f series lcd and i would like to watch these movies without seeing black bars at the top and bottom of the picture
    Also why are they made with this ratio if they dont fit the screen
    please help if you can

    They are made this way as a 2.35 : 1 ratio suits cinemas perfectly. They remain in this format as the vast majority of consumers wish to see their movies as the director intended, black bars and all. Some people, like you, would prefer to watch a slightly poorer version of the movie, as they wish to have the entire screen filled.

    What you can do is make use of the zoom modes on your dvd player or remote to zoom in the picture to one that suits. you will, however, miss a fair bit of the picture off the sides!

    You decide what you prefer. Its your tv and your money that bought it after all!
