What is the BEST MD player?

    Two for starters?:

    Sony MDS JA50ES or
Sony MDS JE555ES (with type R)

I would be interested in any opinions on what has been the best MD player ever built.

I can't recall the model number but I think Denon make (or made) one which BBC radio uses, I read that was about the best MD player/recorded at real world prices.

The MDS-JA333ES is newer than then 555ES, and incorporates MDLP, and as such could be considered the 'better' model.
Of the current crop (of consumer decks), I have the MDS-JB980, which is the best deck with ATRAC Type-S.

Teac made some very industrial looking MD machines

btw if you send the digital out to a decent DAC, could you go for the cheapest model- since you're only using the MD deck as a transport/digital recording method?

Thanks for the inputs guys, here in lies my problem, is the latest 333 the best or the more expensive 'older' player, particularly the battle ship player from 98. Anyone know?

Denon stopped making domestic MD decks a while back now, and they stopped portable MD sales in July 1999 when they ran out.

The MD deck they did was very good, and hey were going to sell a newer version but the cost/price ratio didn't make it a viable product.

They still make many professional (studio and DJ) MD products which are all superb but very expensive.
