I have both a Marantz RC2000mkII and an original old style Pronto

I tried going back to teh pronto but as good as it can be I am not keen on the lack of "real" buttons

Is there a good (value for money) alternative which is a good half way point between the two remotes I have

I've just got hold of a Harmony H655 having pondered various controls, and it is exactly what I was looking for: a hard buttoned simple to use remote on the surface that underneath has all the features I need to totally control my system.

It's based on activities (read macros) and components and as long as you have access to the harmony website for programming then it is very simple to set up - about 30mins to start with and then an additional 20 mins to tweak to exactly what I wanted. Makes setting up single button activities like 'watch tv' ultra simple, and hence family/babysitter/relative friendly...

Importantly for my set-up it had transport commands, the four coloured keys, numeric keypad, various other useful buttons and a configurable screen all useable at the same time.

Works well too, so that's my recommendation.

Have you looked at the MX-700? I think its great. Does everything.

    http://www.remotecentral.com/mx700/index.html

You can buy it without the 2nd remote for about £200 - its worth it. Once set up right it is super easy to use. THe IR beam is also one of, if not, the best - so no more faffing around trying to point it right.
