What is the 17 minute bug?
It is the point on a SKY+ playback when the program freezes or refuses to FF at 30x.
Something to do with the way the OS manages the data on the hard drive which doesn't translate 100% correctly when a larger capacity drive is used.
is there any sort of fix? I have noticed it now on one movie. Thanks
The last update fixed many of the problems associated with using a larger hard drive than spec but a few people still report having problems, not sure if there is anything you can do. It's just a side effect of unathourised upgrading with a system that should have been given the abilty from launch to accomodate larger drives.
I have read that a Full Sytem Reset and then never getting close to maxing out the hard drive is a preventitive but then again I once heard having sex standing up meant a girl couldn't get pregnant. I know one of them is wrong and as for the other.......
I have an unmodified hard drive so have never experienced the 17min bug
Thanks for that, i'm now clear on both points!
The drive itself (Western Digital 120gb) was up to around 30% free when I noticed this on one film. I may go for a tested 160gb drive and hopefully remove the need to reach capacity and get a quieter drive in the process.
I've heard that 80Gb upgrades don't seem to experience the 17min bug. Haven't tried it on mine yet though (still on 40 Mb with 3% free !)
