Looking around for a new cheap DVD player capable of prog scan, I notice a number of models (such as cheap samsungs) listing 625p.

My TV lists 576p and 720p, but not 625p.

However, I note in the samsung manual it says "625p/525p(576p/480p or Component)". Putting the 576p in brackets does that imply it is the same thing?

625p is a misnomer for 576p .. ie. PAL progressive .. in the same way 525p should really by 480p.

AIUI in a PAL video signal there are 625 lines but only 576 of those contain picture information.
