feeling a little nostalgic today and been playing some oldie retrogames of yesteryear.

what happened to all those great studios and developers like Bullfrog, Microprose, Epyx, Bitmap Bros and Ocean they were all major players in the industry once upon a time.

appologies if this is the wrong place for such a thread

    Bullfrog - merged into EA
Microprose - the talent (Sid Meier, etc) left and formed Firaxis, the remainder died a slow lingering death via Hasbro and then ultimately under Atari (Infogrames)
Epyx - went bust like 20 years ago
Bitmap Bros - still exist, shadow of former self, last game was Speedball2 for mobile :censored:
Ocean - became Infogrames UK, now part of Atari

Became part of Sony's Studio Liverpool.

When Studio Liverpool closed many became part of XDev, others left and set up Firesprite as an independent studio.

My personal favourite was Ultimate Play the Game, which became Rare and which was, in both incarnations, a wonderfully creative studio. Still exists, as a shadow of its former self, as part of Microsoft Studios.
