    Hello,

I run a dedicated home theater room and just got my new JVC X5000 projector to complete the setup.
Currently running a Geforce 970GTX 2GB but its quite week to run games at full tilt in 4K.
Should I upgrade to a 980GTX? I really don't want to fork out much extra cash for the Titan if possible. Any other good options out there?

The games I typically run are Fallout 4 type I am not into online stuff.

Also what color profile should I be running RGB full/limited or ycbcr444 full/limited? I get color shifting currently on Windows 7 menu items appear reddish and washed out. I understand I need to upgrade to Win10 for better UHD display support.

    Thanks

There's a gpu conference in about a week where it's expected the next series of cards will be announced with rumours of May release. Can you wait a little bit for them?

hmmm I am a little itchy but I guess it will be worth the wait?...:) So the 980 is not a reall contender? Forgot to say I need HDMI 2.0a as well.

I believe it's generally considered that 'today' you would need a 2x 980ti sli set up for what your after.
The hope is that the new line of gpu's will at least bring this down to only 1 card.
At this point. Very much worth waiting.

No single card can do 4k at 60fps yet for some of the more recent games. Maybe some older games, but it depends what you want to play.
Fallout 4 isn't very well optimized, it didn't even run 1080p 60fps on my 980Ti all the time. It's running on a very old engine so it's not surprising.
Maybe twin 980Ti running SLi but that isn't always supported and can be problematic if it is.
I'd definitely wait until the new cards are announced. It's not that far off, and will cause some of the existing cards to drop in price when the new ones are launched.

Definitely not going with SLI. Yeah I guess will wait but at the same time I will be losing more $$ on my 970 on the sale but that is just the way it is. How about the Radeon 295x2? That's a single card solution.

I will never touch another ATI card for as long as I live. I've had 10+ GFX cards over the past 15 years and 4 have been ATI and they've *ALL* had problems, mostly with the drivers but certainly those X2 solutions (I had 2) were flaky as hell. Nvidia are of course not perfect but I don't care what performance increase is alleged or the bang for buck ATI just are not worth the hassle.

As for an answer to your question, I'd wait to see what the new crop brings as I don't think theres anything out there short of multi SLI/Crossfire thats going to get you near.

Yeah I saw a lot of 980ti's being flogged on second hand sites - just pisses me off that sellers do such obvious bullsh*t lying like "don't need it any more as I don't use it enough" and "only 2 months old - never used" etc. We all know they are just flogging them now before new cards arrive (which they want to buy) and the price of their card drops like a stone...

I have a dual GPU AMD 7990 myself and I can tell you Crossfire support is sh*te to non-existent these days -I have to disable one of the GPUs completely to even be able to play Starwars Battlefront (so I basically have an ancient 7950 playing it)

I have just bought 2 GTX980ti's very happy with the performance they give and in a year or so when the high end pascal cards come out I will look at upgrading them.

I was 4k gaming on SLI 970s (both overclocked), and honestly if you care about consistent 60fps and want the eye candy, it's not possible. It's playable...but generally not at ultra settings, and not without dropping below 60fps sometimes, which you don't want with vsync.

And given that a 980ti is arguably more consistent but slightly below a pair of SLI 970s, and that they cost over £500 still, I think you'd be nuts to buy anything right now :)

In the interim, maybe run @ 1440p on the projector?

Thanks. Yes may try 1440p see how it goes but I guess will just have to wait for next gen GPUs to arrive.

    1440 won't give me 60Hz.
