I am wondering what the best frontend to my HTPC system is. I use / will be using it for TV (live + recording) as well as pics / mp3s etc.

I am currently using MediaPortal but I do not really like the music or pic setup and find that it is not particularly stable at the minute. I have used Meedio for which I really like the music and pics but the TV module does not work (I have an external source and this is not supported yet).

Everything else I have tried is either ok at TV or music but not both.

    Any suggestions ??

My choice is Sagetv www.sagetv.com not the best for music but in my opinion the pvr is second to none. Not only that but it has a great support forum community.

Telewest STB. I can probably code a fudged serial remote for my imon remote reasonably easily so that is not really an issue. The problem I have with Meedio is that my STB is connected via S-Video and as yet, MeedioTV does not support anything other inputs than tuner.

The serial interface will be so meedio can controls your STB directly, MeedioTV will soon have the ability to use the s-video/compossite inputs, they are working on it but have all been ill recently so there has been a delay

I've had the full Lobby suite now for about 18months and the interaction is superb including integration with other hardware via serial or USBUIRT.

It aint cheap but it's incredibly flexible, try out the free demo and then make a decision.

You didn't give a price range

However i reckon if you're spending in excess of £1k (rough figure) on the hardware, why skimp on the software?

I agree, just coming to terms with the price :D
It is just a shame that they do not give you a free trial period as that is a lot of money to fork out without knowing quite what it is like.

That will be the "Free Trial" button then  these things are normally plastered all over the site but this was sort of hidden (honest)

Will definately give this a whirl though

try Xlobby - that is free.

has a plug in for the USB-UIRT so can be programmed to run everything.

I use it with Dscaler to view my svideo input as well as watch ripped DVD's and MP3's.

Easy control via PPC or simpad - has a real wow factor with the additional skins that you can download aswell.

    Rgds

Downloading now but I am a little confused about TV. Is this part of MainLobby ?? The TVLobby app does not have a trial and appears to be only an EPG ??
