so following on froma few other posts ive done. I have totally upgraded my AV system to the Denon 3600, Dali oberon 5 & vokal with Monitro Audio bronze FX mounted to the side of the MLP as i sit right up against the wall so cant have true rears.

Im after a proper immersive sound so also have a pair of cambridge audio minx min 21 as front heights, mounted above TV over fronts at ceiling level but ad the reason i upgraded the amp, i want to go 5.1.4. The minx are ok but i cant really tell that the sound is coming from them. Ceiling is 2.6m high.

I want to be able to hear and feel the atmos so i was thinking of adding a pair of proper speakers as fronts and using the minx as rear heights.

Looking at the Dali Alteco but have also seen the Wharfdale D300 (half the price of the Dali) and the polk OWM3
Ive decided against in ceiling as its too much messig about and i wouldnt do a very good job cutting holes.

Anyone have any advice?

You can get good in-ceiling speakers like the KEFs at Richer Sounds for 200£/pair and your ceiling being 8,5feet high it should give you great result. Hire some friend who is handy do the job. If you have even small chance to put speakers to X spot where the sound suppose to come from, then please do that. :) I have yet to hear anyone being disappointed moving from upfiring/heights to ceiling speakers.

If you stick with height channels then no reason to cheap out. Dali Alteco owners thread has comments and people really like them when placed high up on wall vs. upfiring. You having Dali LCR would be bonus..

Seriously though i would hire someone to install the in-ceiling speakers. You could get some cheaper ones (x4) like Fisual IC65 too for 200£, 5.1.4! Few links below where you could ask about the installation perhaps.

As for the two pairs of ceiling speakers with couch against wall see dealers own house pictures here:

Cheers, problem is also i sit nearly on the back wall so i couldn't get in ceiling behind me, only over the top of the MLP. Id prob have someone install if i do go that route.

would that be ok, i do like the idea of in-ceiling but the positioning is what was putting me off, i cant get near the recommended dolby setup. Would i put the fronts in the middle or more towards the TV wall if i cant put the rears behind me? In ceiling would be cheaper as well, the fisual or even amazon basics look appealing for the price

Check the link i posted on my earlier post. You can ask in the thread from Rich/Seriously. That is he´s own room and he´s installer. You can see exactly where the in-ceiling speakers are. The first one is bit ahead and second is straight on top of listeners.

There is ceiling speakers which has adjustable tweeter too, not sure is that needed if the speaker is bit further ahead than normally.

I had a thought while was walking the dog, i could do either 7.1.2 or 7.1.4 using the minx min as rears as they would fit on the window sil, i could build a little stand for them. if i go for .2, i can place two bigger say 8inch in ceiling in front of the listening position, although one would be in an alcove, would that work?
