What files best for quality?

Hi all,

I have a Panasonic HDC-SD60 which records in HD. It saves files as AVCHD.

Now the question is what files shall I convert these to to use in Windows Movie marker whilst keeping the best quality I can?

Any help here is appreciated.

I use quick media converter at the moment.

Thanks,

Richard

Why WMM?. Anything you convert AVCHD to for use with WMM will result in quality loss
Id be more inclined to leave the files as they are and edit them in software that will edit them as is

I see, well I edit the video tp make football highlights. So I need to be able to add titles and slow motion for replies.

Any other good free software that I could use?

The package panasonic issue with the camcorder is rubbish IMO

What version of WMM are you using? AFAIK the latest Windows Live version (Vista & Win7 only) can work fine with AVCHD - unless it converts it in the background  . The old XP version is not HD compatible so using that will result in a very big loss of quality.
AFAIK there are no other free editing programs unles supplied with a camcorder etc. So if you want to use something better then I believe you will need to spend some money. I currently use Sony Movie Studio 10 that can be bought from the likes of Amazon for under £30 and should do all you want - and more. There are several other programs as well from many companies and with a bit of searching of this forum you should be able to find all the details.

Mark.
