If its just a player you're after, then why not go for the Panasonic DVD-S97?

You can pick these up for about £200 now (I paid £250 just a couple of months ago!).

Its a top-notch player and an ideal partner for the PV500 range as it has HDMI connectivity.

I've currently got mine connected up via RGB SCART to an old JVC CRT at present, but the PQ from it has been absolutely outstanding.

I'm just waiting for my plasma to turn up so I can see what this can do over HDMI!

I've got an SD220E DVD player at the moment, which has component out, but not progressive.

As/when I get myself a panel like the PV500 will the SD220E serve me well enough for now to make it worth waiting for Blu-ray DVD players in the (not too distant) future?

Or is it worth while upgrading the DVD player immediately to something with prog scan & HDMI? Alternatively, would I gain much in getting the panel in a package deal which includes a DMR-ES10 - in terms of improved PQ from the DVD?

HD - according to this thread, there are a few retailers bundling that DVD with the PV500:

    Have I read it wrong?

Anyway, what thoughts on the SD220E? Does it need upgrading immediately or will it do itself/the screen justice until Blu-Ray time?

I did ask about upgrading to the es50 but was told it had to have a hardware mod to make it multi- region that was from the bloke at pansonic the es10 can be made multi region by remote hack.
    Cheers Gonzo.

    Dave,

I have the E500 and it's a great machine, I'm still extremely pleased with mine after a month or so's ownership and I got mine for a bargain from Richer Sounds, the £599 promotion.

But, and it's a big but... If you have the the PV500 I think you maybe better off with the Pioneer DVR920 as I believe it has HDMI output and good as the Panny is, it doesn't.

I think either make a great choice for a DVD/HDD recorder to compliment your plasma.
