In response to Wellsi info below:

NTSC

"You can only copy NTSC DVD-R discs if the dvd player will output the signal in true NTSC (ie not try to convert it to PAL). And the resulting dvd-r disc you record to will also be NTSC.

The E20 cannot cope with a converted signal (eg it won't record NTSC tapes that are played back on a VCR that allows "NTSC playback on a PAL TV")."

Do all DVD players(or is it a region thing?) output true ntsc signals?
I am still looking to buy a DVD recorder and player to duplicate family DVD-R disks. I have NTSC and Pal DVD-R disks
Any suggestions on good machines out there? i:e players and recorders that can do this.
Also is it true that you can't copy some films on old VHS tapes onto DVD-R?
Thanks

i think pioneer players output raw ntsc. Different manufacturers do different things. some do raw, some upscale to some variety of pal.

All (recently released) Sony DVD players output pure NTSC.
