    Hi everyone.

I've got a Pioneer PDP-502MXE Plasma. It looks lovely, unfortunately my current DVD player doesn't (and has AWFUL lip-sync problems. It's a Hitachi P305.

Having spent $$$ on a good screen, it's time to spend on a DVD player; however I doubt I can persuade the partner that we should go to TAG level, so there's about £1K to spend (absolute tops).

Obviously I'd like Progressive Scan, but currently only have R2 DVDs, so is this worth it ?

Looking forward to your opinions - many thanks

    Ben

At least they are upgradeable, as is the TAG, so you can buy an Arcam DV88 and upgrade when it is available...

You can get the Arcam Dv88 pro-scan board now for £350.
    Well worth it.

You might be interested in my ad for a Silver DV88 with progressive scan board then in the classified section (if it hasn't got there yet see the uk.media.home-cinema newsgroup). And I can confirm what a previous post said.....

I actually run a 502MXE and an Arcam DV88. For a grand you'd have to look hard to beat it. As previous posts mention, it's upgradable and the support is generally pretty good from the dealers and Arcam.

Whether you want prog scan or not is up to you. Personally, I don't think it's worth it, and you'd be better off looking at an iScan (~£700) which will give you prog scan on all your feeds. If you really want to go for it, Gordon showed me a Vigatec when he came to calibrate the plasma screen; shame I haven't got a granny to sell!

I noticed that there are a couple of iScan Pros going for around £400 in the classifieds...

From any Arcam dealer. It can be dealer fitted if he/she is sompetant enough (we fit them), othersie I suppose it's off to Arcam.

You can buy the Dv88 with pro-scan board fitted new, for £1,299.
