I've been searching high and low for an answer to this question and I've had no joy. Does it output a computer signal and if so is it VGA, SVGA and at what refresh rate. Or is a component signal.

    Thanks

    Hi Conor,

I've not got one myself (although my missus does use Pro V on her hair :D ), but I do know it outouts a RGB on VGA - so yes, a computer signal.

Resolutions I think are standard PC res - 800x600, 1024x768 XGA etc..

It takes S-video/composite inputs, deinterlaces & outputs prog. scan via VGA, at those res.

I still prefer HTPC/Dscaler though - Pro V lacks any native resolutions for 16/9 panels, so the scaler in the PJ is still needed.

But it aparently does an excellent job given it's low price.

    Hi Conor,

Kramer's got it about right. It outputs 600*480, 800*600 and XGA - the best result is to have it output XGA, I find.

I got one of these primarily to "clean up" TV signals going into an AE100, and it does a brilliant job. DVD fed into it by Svideo comes very close to HCPC quality, but just lacks the "snap" that comes with a panel match for the projector - as Kramer and others have recommended here before.

Because the ProV can take a TV signal in from a cable feed and use its own tuner, as well as taking an Svideo signal and composite video signal and do a VGA passthru, it is an excellent way of feeding all source to a projector via a single VGA cable at the best quality available.

There have been posts here about Macrovision problems but I haven't encountered them.

    Hey Kramer
What's your favourite Mike Oldfield Album...if you dare to admit that u have one. BTW I have been a big Mike oldfield fan since the late 70's so please have no fear of opening up to me. Just let it all out, you know it has to be good for you to "share and bare". I assure (notice the ass there) that you are among friends here.

Conor (Out of the closet Mike Oldfield fan)

PS: My parents found it hard to accept too

So the avatar gave the game away

OT, but in the interest of civility, they are:

    Tubular Bells
    Ommadawn
    Amarok(60mins 02secs - 1 track - cooooooooooooool!

Of recent albums I'd say TB2 & Guitars.

But I have pretty much everything he released - some good stuff to be found on most albums.

Favourite is AMAROK (I know, when people hear it they say "that's not music "), but I like it.

I think your question re the Pro V's been answered anyway, so the nice mods will forgive this little aberation

    Slan abhaile!

Quite liked "Songs of Distant Earth" myself.

And "The Millenium Bell" DVD is ok.

BTW, not Irish, hope my opinion still counts;)

Does Mike Oldfield have a pro-v, and does anyone know what he thinks of it?

I tried one, didn't push my buttons. In fact it gave me a terrible pain in all the diodes down my left side. It offset the picture on my projector, but don't let that put you off trying, cos it isn't an AE100.

Mike Oldfield is selling his Prov on the classifieds and I'm considering buying it from him. That's why I put this post up in the first place.

What projector do you have as I am not using the AE100, I have the Tosh MT3

NEC VT540, I've got a keene synchblaster cable on order, it has a horizontal freq of 15.625 which is OK for me, not for AE100. Need to connect my RGB STB to it, hence interest in pro v, but the cable cuts out a layer of conversion and is cheaper. You need a RGB to S-video converter as well as a pro v to see STB output, as STB's put out mono via RF, and I fear some latency in the system might put sound and picture out of synch by the time it's gone through the whole pro-v and s video setup. I didn't check that, couldn't get the picture right at all.

Give Mike my best then, I've got Tub. Bells too, still sounds good on my gramophone!

BTW should we have a poll on whose Missus uses pro-v on their hair, and what results trhey get?

What about the greatest lyrics ever written and recorded?

Can only be that song from Ommadawn about the horse(?)

Big brown beastie, big brown face......something, something.

    Unforgettable stuff.

Yea I'd forgotten about that song (with the help of much therapy)

How about "Tá mé ommadawn le ceol"

    Now there's grammer for you

If u don't speak Irish that' like saying "Fool for music I am" you know kinda backwards

Now I think about it, it might even be Chris de Burgh, Lady in Red.

Who can forget the first time they heard it and the raw feelings and emotion it evoked, the powerful physical effect it had as you threw your guts up at the sickly, oozing, sycophancy of it all.

And this guy also wrote Spanish Train and The Traveller?

Must be a mid life Crisis. (Crises, you can't get away!!)

    Thanks in advance.

To clean up the signal path. The filters are there to comply with various emissions regulations but don't do the video any favours.

Yes! There are a number of filters in the signal path which are only there for Federal compliance. I have seen a thread before detailing how to remove them to mprove performance. But, I can't find it now I need it ;-(
