Sorry to sound like a newbie, but what do these mean??
Low Frequency Effects (LFE)
In My Honest Opinion (IMHO)
the 'H' can also stand for 'Humble', albeit sometimes in a tongue in cheek way.
K'ung Fu-tse (The poster fomerly known as PeteH)
Just to elaborate slightly on what Jenz said.
LFE is the dedicated channel for LOW FREQUENCIES (BASS) This is the .1 in 5.1 as it isn't considered a full channel (range wise). It was only given a point figure otherwise it would have been 6 Channel Surround Sound.
Just in case you didn't know that.
Thanks guys - sorry to be such a newbie.
...and then there are:
GWTW - Gone With The Wind
LOL - Laughing Out Loud
ROTFLMAO - Rolling On The Floor Laughing My @ss Off
YMMV - Your Mileage May Vary
BTW - By The Way
VAT - Value Added Tax (but you knew that already!...)
LOTR - Lord Of The Rings
LOA (sometimes LoA) - Lawrence Of Arabia
SW - Star Wars
...etc., etc., etc.
. . .
Careful, you're breaking the rules there!
...erm... the trick is to get around the rules...
example: ...have you seen the American remake (starring Ewan McGregor) of the nifty Danish thriller [email protected]? ...do you have the DVD of Pr¦ck Up Your Ears starring a young Gary Oldman? ...seen any DVDs of Hitchc0ck movies lately?
...and so on...
. . .
What about CTHD then?
I bet I work it out for myself in the meantime and then feel a bit of a t*at for asking!
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
Though I do wish people would write things in full on occasion. We don't all stare at a computer all day at work
you missed out KMA!
Thank you all!
Confucious - glad to hear that somebody else isn't utterly enamoured with the whole acronym thang.
PS - I didwork out the CTHD one about an hour after posting the question
I'll research more thoroughly next time
