I am thinking of getting a RX-V440RDS Yamaha AV receiver coupled with 2xm74i (front two) + m7c1i(centre) + m7ds ( back two) for use with a plasma (i.e movies and bit of music)

Info on speakers is here

Info on AV v440rds is here

Will this provide enough sound for a room that is about 7m x 4m

All good except for the M7C1 centre - it is too small and weak to match the bigger M74i's - get the M7C2 instead. :)

OK....

I have also been looking at this setup

m35Black + m3c1Black + m3dsBlack £499.99

It is about 50 quid more than the previous setup but the sensitivity is imporved on the m35.

In short should it be the m35 or m74i?

Also what do you all think of the Yamaha amp?

Get the m74i and the M7C2 centre, or even a more expensie mission centre, The M7C1 us really poor by all accounts.

Tom? You were at Wincoll right?

This system is built to go with a plasma screen and media PC. It will be used for films, audio and games. I am aiming for a price range of between 500-600 quid.

I was at Winchester indeed, and I'll be down there on saturday watching XV's :D In fact your brother was in my house (A).

Hyperfi(.co.uk) often do really good deals on speaker packages, you might want to have a look at some of those.

I considered the M3C1 speaker for my system, but decided on the meatier m7c2, it looks a lot nicer imo too.

So the m74 are good speakers in terms of performance (i.e sound quality and volume) and value for money?

Also should I consider the Tannoy FX 5.1 or are is my curent propsal better? I have heard good things about it.

I was in the same position a couple of months ago needing a new receiver plus a new speaker setup. My first inkling was the Mission m74s as I had been looking at them a while back - however after looking around a little I came across the Kef Coda range and managed to find a good price on the whole deal at hifistore at just over £400 for the lot http://www.hifistore.co.uk/product.php?qsProd=CODACINEMA

Im really impressed with the overall sound, and thats using it with a Sony STR-DB790
