Spectre - that looks fine. Certainately wouldn't discourage me from using the site.

The GIF file at the top of the page is complete overkill for the Matrix advert (how many frames per second have they crammed into it?), and is quite distracting.

    Hope this helps :)

It took nearly two minutes to open up for me (with a 56k modem) which is a little slow. I don't like pop up adverts at all - I begrudge the fact that something I don't want to see is taking up bandwidth and thus slowing down the things I do want to see.
All the other adverts were just fine though.

Lex, if you get either norton personal firewall or zone alarm pro it contains a little program that removes all pop-ups and all ads from sites. If i turn it on i can't even see the hifibitz ad in the top right

It was fine until that pop-up advert shows. I detest them with a passion as I hunt around the advert for the close toggle which is always camoflaged into the ad.

    Apart from that :smashin:

Although I don't like adverts esp pop-ups - I appreciate that sites like this need these as another source of revenue...however, are these adverts regularly visited enough for additional revenue to be of a benefit?

The site is from Paragon Publishing who having been bought out by Highbury-WV are now pushing for a company-wide strategy on websites.
It was suggested to me that our sites (HCC, What Video, Total DVD etc) be redesigned to accomodate more banners.
There is no way on earth I would allow either of those adverts on any sites I run. Given the choice.
The Matrix one is Flash and restarts with each new page. The sound is obtrusive. And I hate pop-ups.
Frankly I wouldn't use the site because of the Matrix advert.
I also question their 'UK's No 1 DVD review site' boast since Total DVD has over twice as many!

    I don't see no ads either:p
You just gotta love the Norton internet security adblocker;)

I absolutely loathe popups and those damn flash animations that play on top if the page and you can't click on the page because then you actually click on the ad.
but no worries since I have norton.

I'd sooner have a kick in a soft spot than any pop up advertising. The pop up add is even worse to me than spam mail. The site is prety rough as well.

Couldn't care less. PopUp Companion nukes them before I see them!

I hate pop ups and even more ads with sound.
Before using software to stop this I stopped using those sites!

I didn't see the ads, but I've seen the Chaplin one on the Guardian website. It's weird, as I've got a couple of things blocking pop-ups, but they don't kill the Chaplin advert.

Pop-ups don't always dissuade me from using a site, but they normally lead me to boycott the product they're advertising...

I just get "Action Cancelled" on all this crap. I think the Sly Sports website is the worst (no surprise there) with all sorts of stuff opening on top of the main page and you have to wait until it's finished running before you can close it. One ad I even thought was a virus at work, the entire page fell in bits to the bottom of the screen. Then I realised it was an ad.

I think that Pop-ups should be made illegal. I hate the constant battle of closing one when two more open.
